Graduates’ Appreciation Night

The Graduates’ Appreciation Night was a success.  There was a wonderful crowd present to honor our ten graduates.  It was impressive to see the generosity of this congregation in response to our graduates.  I want to thank everyone who decorated, prepared food, and cleaned up.  It went smoothly again this year.

Why a Bible?

There are many different graduation gifts that people receive.  There will be cards filled with money, things that will useful in college, vacations, and some will receive cars.  I remember a girl that I went to high school with received a new BMW after graduating high school. There are many gifts (some that are extravagant) that are being enjoyed right now.  The Calvert City  congregation presents each graduate with a brand new leather-bound Bible.  The is one of the  greatest gifts that anyone can give or receive.  God’s word has “All things that pertain to life and godliness” 2 Peter 1.3, contains the gospel of Christ “that is the power of God that leads to  salvation to everyone that believes” Romans 1.16, and Paul tells us that “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3.16-17.  This is the only gift that one can receive that leads to eternal life.  My prayer is that each of these graduates will spend time in this book and apply it to their lives  and that they will dedicate their lives to the God who created, the Holy Spirit that inspired, and the Christ who was crucified for them.
