Parents and Teens: FYI

There are two books that every parent (and young person) should be aware of.  Child Psychologist Dr. James Dobson of “Focus on the Family” warned against them on his nationally syndicated radio program.  They are titled Conversation with God and Conversations with God for Teens, both written by Neale Donald Walsh.  They have been on the New York best seller’s list for a number of weeks.

The author purports  to answer questions from kids giving God’s answer to their questions.  The answers are not biblical and often go against the very thing Christianity stands for.

For example on girl asked, “Why am I a lesbian?”  He answers that she was born that way, and that is the result of genetics (just as you have been born with certain eyes or hair).  The he advises her to go out and celebrate her differences.

A girl asked, “I am living with my boyfriend.  My parents say I should marry him because I am living in sin now.  Should I marry him?”  He responded, “Who are you sinning against? Not me (supposedly God’s answer, S.C.), because you have done nothing wrong.”

Another questioner asked about God’s forgiveness. Again, answering for God, the author wrote, “I do not forgive anyone because there is nothing to forgive. There is no such thing as right and wrong and that is what I have been trying to tell everyone. I do not judge people. People have chosen to judge one another and this is wrong because the rule is ‘Judge not that you be not judged.’”

In addition to teaching falsely regarding these issues mentioned, the books also erroneously quote scripture. Your children may be exposed to them even if you don’t purchase the books.  They are being distributed to schools through the Scholastic Book Club.  As Christian parents you need to protect your children from such evil influences.
