When We Help Others . . .
¨ We provide a solution to a problem that may have seemed insurmountable to the one facing it.
¨ We build or reinforce a friendship.
¨ We open a door that may lead to our being helped in the future (in our own time of weakness)—maybe even by the person we assist.
¨ We divide the sorrow of the burden that was bearing upon someone.
¨ We share the joy that comes from a burden being lifted.
¨ We build confidence in the one receiving help so that they may be able to meet other problems on their own.
¨ We take our attention away from our own problems that may be causing us distress.
¨ We encourage the one helped to help others.
¨ We lessen our self-centeredness.
¨ We fulfill the will of God.
¨ We open a door for greater influence in the future.
¨ We set an example for others to follow.
¨ We remind ourselves that we too have been helped by someone in our past.
¨ We lessen the possibility of a tragedy.
¨ We may find the solution to our own problems, or at least be able to look at them differently.
¨ We allow the one helped to move forward.
¨ We restore hope in mankind.
¨ We make the world a better place.
¨ We walk in the footsteps of Jesus.
¨ We glorify God.
"As we therefore have opportunity, let us do
good unto all men . . ." (Galatians 6:10).
