Thanks, Mom, for Everything You Do for Me!
How many times have you wanted to hug your mother and tell her thank you for all she has done for you? For Anna Jarvis in 1908 this desire was so great that she helped create a whole day of Mom-thanking. Anna, whose mother was an early advocate of a day for mothers, carried on to completion the effort to establish an annual Mother's Day. She planned and arranged for a church service on May 10, 1908, which was dedicated to expressing gratitude for mothers everywhere. Since that day, the observation of Mother's Day has spread internationally. And on May 9, 1914, President Wilson issued a proclamation declaring the second Sunday in May to be observed as Mother's Day throughout America. And the carnation? Anna also initiated the custom of wearing carnations in order that mothers might be further honored . . . and because it was her mother's favorite flower!
****** The Blessings of Marrying a Christian
1. You can begin your home with Christ at the center. 2. When one is ill, the other one can be expected to take the children to worship. 3. There is never a question of where the children will attend worship. 4. You can assist one another on the way to heaven. 5. The pain at the death of a mate will be eased.
