Staying Fit

Have you ever stopped to think about why we struggle so much with “getting back in shape?” Continuing to exercise once you have established a routine seems to be a much different task, but there is something extremely difficult about creating that habit when first starting.

The difficulty may perhaps be due to the idea of change. We are, by nature, creatures of habit and we find comfort in the things that are “normal” to us. This entire concept applies in many areas, and spiritually is no exception! We struggle taking those first few steps and getting up off of our spiritual couch to exercise. If we do manage to start, we often struggle with being consistent enough to form a habit or a routine.

Perhaps this phenomenon is one of our greatest weaknesses, but its time to start making it our greatest strength. In order to do that, we must make a decision, a commitment to change our comforts. We can no longer be comfortable sitting on the sideline spiritually speaking, We must commit to getting in the game. We must endure the discomfort long enough for it to become comfortable and when our human nature is begging us to quit, we must continue waking up every morning and carrying out the life of a Christian because that is what we are called to do.

After all, that’s what our Savior did as He lived a perfect life in an imperfect world. He was so committed to the goal that he even got up and exercised obedience to the will of God on the days leading up to and the day of the cross. Follow Christ’s example and begin getting and staying spiritually fit today!
